Day 13: One Thing You’re Excited For

It was definitely hard to choose just one thing I’m excited for, since there are a lot of exciting things going on in my life.

But, the thing I’m most excited for right now is graduating university next year and finishing my first degree.

It’s more than just getting a piece of paper with my name on it that’s exciting. It’s also knowing that all the hard work and late nights that I’ve put into studying have paid off, and hopefully my good marks will be recognized as well. Finishing a degree is no small feat, so it’ll be nice to know I made it through the four years.

I’m also excited to get my X-ring this December. Having seen some friends get theirs this last year, I’m looking forward to getting mine even more. Of course, it might seem a bit frivolous to put so much importance on a gold ring, but it really is a symbol of how much St.F.X. becomes a sort of family.

Graduating is exciting as well because it means that I get to start a new chapter in my life. It’s both slightly terrifying and really exciting to decide where I’ll go next, and what I’ll do next. I do have a couple of plans in the works, but I’m ready to face the unknown of post-grad life.

I’m really looking forward to the next year of university, and the X-ring and degree that I’ll get during it. I’m definitely going to try and make the most of every moment I have left on campus so this last year is unforgettable.

What are you guys excited for? Leave me a comment down below!

I’m Tired…

…of seeing another person shot and killed by the very people meant to protect them.

…of seeing yet another headline about an attack on civilians.

…of hearing hate filled comments about other races and cultures, bred from ignorance.

…of seeing some leaders around the world put their goals before the wellness of their citizens.

…of seeing countries refuse refugees, just because they can.

…of seeing constant talks of war, but very rarely talks of peace.

…of seeing so many people exploiting this beautiful place we call home, just for profit.

…of seeing our differences tear us apart, instead of helping us come together and achieve so much more.

…of going to read the news, and being worried about what I’ll read about today.

…of hearing one positive thing, only to hear a thousand more negative things.

…of seeing so much violence in this world, that I only feel numb.

…of seeing the present, and worrying what world my future children will be brought up in.

But mostly, I am tired of seeing this world full of hate and fear, instead of love and peace.

Day 4-Where you want to be in 10 years

Oh boy…I’ll be almost 30 years old in 10 years.

Well, I hope that I’ve gotten through at least my undergrad at school, and maybe if I went back to school I’d have a Masters degree as well. I hope my X-ring looks as pretty as I can picture it in my mind.

I hope I’m getting settled into my career. Hopefully, I’ve made it through the testing to become a diplomat and then gotten through training. And if I’m lucky, I’ll be stationed somewhere cool and be working on projects that I’m passionate about.

I also hope that I’ve kept most of my friends from now close and that I’m still close with all my family, no matter where in the world I am. I hope I’ve found someone to date that is worth every effort, possibly married them, and possibly have a little one or two on the way.

I want to be an aware citizen, and I hope I’ve kept giving back to the communities that have supported me every step of the way. I hope humanity has figured out more of its problems, and that I’ve contributed to that positively.

I hope that in 10 years, I am in a place that I am happy in and that I am proud of getting through with all the ups and downs of life.

Do you guys have any goals for your next 10 years? Leave them down below!

Day 2-What I’m excited about

Everything?

Right now I’m just excited about everything in my life, mostly my future.

I’m excited to have my job back, to be back in Banff with friends old and new, and to be back close to home for the summer. I’m excited about all the adventures I’m sure to have and the stories I’ll have to tell my grandkids in the future from this summer.

I’m excited for second year at St.FX, I miss the place and the people already. I’m excited to take courses mostly in my area of focus, and take new classes. Plus maybe joining a few more societies this year, and setting up an exchange to Peru for third year.

I’m excited for what the future holds that I don’t know about yet, from things about my future to my family’s. I’m excited to live life, to be honest, to be in this moment and cherish all the gifts that life gives me every single day.

What are you guys excited for?

Day 17-What you want to become when you’re older

Well, nothing like a cold splash of reality about my future. Or as I call it, just normal weekly things that I’m reminded of…

Anyways, I do have two ideas of what I want to become in the future.

The first, and my top choice, is to become a diplomat, or Foreign Service Officer (FSO). I want to become a diplomat because I believe that the way to help and do good in this rather politically complex world is to experience it first hand, and interact with it on a smaller level first, before trying to change anything on a bigger scale. Not to mention, I love learning languages, travelling, and talking to all sorts of people across the world, so I think I’ll make a good diplomat. (Fingers crossed)

Second, if I don’t become an FSO, I’d love to teach. And as weird as that may seem contrasted to a cool life of a diplomat, in teaching future generations, I hope I can teach them how to be better citizens. Having also been a TA at one point, I’d definitely like to consider the possibility of becoming an elementary school teacher. However, that is still my plan B to being a diplomat.

What do you want to become/are becoming? Let me know in the comments!
